An eco literacy journey
I went along to a 3 hour training session with Dr. Cathy Fitzgerald and Grace Wells in the National Opera House last week. It was open to all creatives living and working in Wexford.
In the session, Dr Cathy Fitzgerald shared why ecoliteracy is essential for those seeking to address today’s pressing environmental and social challenges. From her experience, PhD research, and pioneering ecoliteracy training since 2019, Cathy illustrated how developing an ecological consciousness can empower more impactful and purpose-driven practices.
The session was co-facilitated by eco-poet and environmental writer Grace Wells, who explored how to cultivate resilience through engaging with cultural resources of heritage, language, art, music and community connection. Drawing on her long experience within the spheres of arts and ecology, Grace spoke to the key learnings she has absorbed from a lifetime of working in eco-arts.
It was a fascinating morning and Wexford County Council then announced that they would be awarding 12 bursaries to creatives in Wexford for Dr. Fitzgerald’s year-long course via her Haumea Ecoversity starting in January 2025.
I was delighted to be awarded one of these bursaries and look forward to engaging with the material next year.
